Broadband in Australia
Somebody needs to tell Tony Abbot that we no longer use cassette players and introduce him to iTunes. On the surface, the Liberals Internet plan VS Labours plan is a no brainer. Who cares that it’s going to cost $46 billion it needs to happen.
From what I can gather, the Liberal plan will greatly improve the mobile phone (iPad) market. The Labour plan greatly improves home and business computer download speeds.
I’ve also heard the argument that a fibre optic network in Australia would never be profitable, that’s why we don’t have one. Mind you someone at IBM did say (the CEO at the time) that he could never see any use for computers in the home.
Labour couldn’t manage puttingĀ insulationĀ into homes so how on earth they are going to roll out their Internet plan is another question. To compare us to Singapore is not fair given the difference - a single city and an entireĀ Continent.
We have one of the slowest and most expensive Internet networks in the world - in this day and age this is an issue that needs serious attention.
There are arguments for both policies. Beyond all the poltics, does anyone really know? I’m sure there’s some computer savvy person out there who would look at it and probably say “You’re both wrong, you need to do this…”
